In Psalms chapter eighteen David wrote, “you have girded me with strength unto the battle: you have subdued under me those that rose up against me”, and in chapter eighteen and verse forty of Psalms David said, “you have given me the necks of my enemies” where we read,
You have also given me the necks of my enemies; that I might destroy them that hate me.
The verse begins, “You have also given me the necks of my enemies;” David began with the words, “you have also” which means “You, Jehovah God, have even so and indeed” “given me” or “granted, bestowed, designated, constituted and provided to me, David” “the necks” or “the stiff physical necks” “of my enemies” which means “belonging to my, David's, hating adversaries and foes”. David wrote how Jehovah God provided him with the “stiffened necks” of the people who hated and opposed him.
The verse continues, “... that I might destroy them that hate me.” David added the words, “that I might destroy” or “so I, David, may put to an end, terminate, exterminate and annihilate” “them that hate me” which means “the hating adversaries and foes who are odious and hateful toward me, David”. David knew Jehovah God equipped him with the ability to step on the “necks” of his “enemies” so he could rid himself of people who were hateful toward him.
When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn how David knew Jehovah God was the source for defeating his enemies. When God fought for David, no one stood a chance, and God desires to have a relationship with every person in this manner. He sent His Son Jesus to die on the cross for the sins that separated people from Him, and when we submit to Jesus, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and be with us in all our battles. Like a foot that is put upon the “neck” of an opponent, God will provide protection and provision for our eternal security by subduing all who rise up against us in a hateful manner.
Next time David says, “They cried, but there was none to save them”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
