In Psalms chapter eighteen David wrote, “I have pursued my enemies, and overtaken them: neither did I turn again till they were consumed. I have wounded them that they were not able to rise: they are fallen under my feet”, and in chapter eighteen and verse thirty-nine of Psalms David said, “You have girded me with strength unto the battle” where we read,
For you have girded me with strength unto the battle:
you have subdued under me those that rose up against me.
The verse begins, “For you have girded me with strength unto the battle:” David began with the words, “For you have girded me” which means “because, since and on account that you, Jehovah God, have encompassed, equipped and clothed me, David” “with strength” or “with might, efficiency, wealth and ability” “unto the battle” which means “to engage in fighting or war”. David declared that he caught and defeated his enemies because Jehovah God clothed him with the might and ability to go to battle with them.
The verse goes on to say, “you have subdued under me those that rose up against me.” David continued with the words, “you have subdued under me” or “you, Jehovah God, have bent down, made to kneel, and caused to bow beneath me, David” “those that rose up against me” which means “the hating adversaries and foes who stood against, became powerful toward and were hostile to me, David”. David wrote how Jehovah God was his source of subduing people who were hostile to him.
When we consider the words in this verse, we learn how David knew the reason he was able to catch and subdue his enemies was because Jehovah God actually equipped him and brought them down. God fought for David, and there is no greater warrior upon which to rely. God becomes a person's protector, provider and defense when they submit to His Son Jesus as their personal “Savior and Lord”. When we realize God is for us and not against us, we will submit to Him and His Son Jesus to gain access to the greatest defense we will ever need, and those who rely upon Him will receive His forgiveness of sins, eternal life and protection like no other is able to give.
Next time David says, “You have also given me the necks of my enemies”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
