In Psalms chapter nineteen David wrote, “The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple”, and in chapter nineteen and verse eight of Psalms David said, “the statutes of the LORD are right” where we read,
The statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart:
the commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes.
The verse begins, “The statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart:” David began with the words, “the statutes” which means “the precepts, mandates and commandments” “of the LORD” or “belonging to Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God” “are right” which means “exist as straight, upright, correct and level”, “rejoicing the heart” or “exulting, making glad and cheering up the inner man, soul, knowledge, thinking, reflection and memory”. David said Jehovah God's precepts and commandments are “righteous”, and they make the soul and thinking of a person to be glad.
The verse continues, “the commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes.” David added the words, “the commandment” or “the ordinance, law and precept” “of the LORD” which means “belonging to Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God” “is pure” or “exists as clean, sincere and clear”, “enlightening the eyes” which means “brightening, illuminating and giving light to the physical eyes or mental and spiritual faculties”. David wrote how Jehovah God's “ordinance and law” is clean and sincere, and it will illuminate a person's vision.
When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn more about Jehovah God's “precepts and ordinances” as they are upright and sincere to have a gladdening and illuminating affect upon those who read and observe them. God loves people, and His “laws and ordinances” are for their protection. God's laws are righteous, and anyone who obeys them will be glad because they are kept from so many difficulties, and His ordinances are so sincere that the person who obeys them will have an illuminated path before them. God wants to have a personal relationship with every person through His Son Jesus, and He has given His law to show mankind how they come short of His perfection. Jesus kept the law of God perfectly, without sin, and yet died upon the cross for the whole world. (See 2 Corinthians 5:21) When we realize we are sinners, humble ourselves, turn to God and ask His Son Jesus to come into our lives and forgive us, not only will He do so, but He will also grant us everlasting life with Him. Let God be praised for His “statutes and commands” which lead us to our salvation.
Next time David says, “the fear of the LORD is clean”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
