In Psalms chapter nineteen David wrote, “the judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether. More to be desired are they than gold, yes, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb. Moreover by them is your servant warned: and in keeping of them there is great reward.”, and in chapter nineteen and verse twelve of Psalms David asked, “Who can understand his errors?” where we read,
Who can understand his errors? cleanse me from secret faults.
The verse begins, “Who can understand his errors?” David began with the words, “Who can understand” which means “what person whether male or female is able and capable of discerning, considering, observing, marking and distinguishing” “his errors” or “that person's moral mistakes”? David asked what person was capable of discerning and distinguishing their own moral mistakes.
The verse goes on to say, “cleanse me from secret faults.” David continued with the words, “cleanse me” or “empty, clear, make pure, innocent and free from punishment me, David” “from secret faults” which means “apart and separate from errors, mistakes, transgressions and wrongs which are hidden and concealed”. David asked Jehovah God to make him pure and innocent from transgressions and wrongs which were hidden to him.
When we consider the words in this verse, we learn how David knew he did not really understand his own self. There were wrongful ways about him of which he was unaware. Shakespeare wrote, “know thyself”, and yet, true self knowledge is often hidden from us. God knows us completely, and He is aware of all our “faults” and errors, and He still loves us. He sent His Son Jesus to die on the cross for our errors, mistakes, transgressions and wrongs, and when we put our faith and trust in Him, He will forgive our sins and grant us everlasting life with Him. Let us join David and ask the LORD to “cleanse” us from “secret faults” and to make His ways our ways.
Next time David says, “Keep back your servant also from presumptuous sins”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
