God Ascending on High and Leading Captivity - Psalms 68:18

In Psalms chapter sixty eight David said, “The chariots of God are twenty thousand, even thousands of angels: the Lord is among them, as in Sinai, in the holy place, and in chapter sixty-eight and verse eighteen of Psalms David said God has, “ascended on high, you have led captivity captive” where we read,

You have ascended on high, you have led captivity captive: you have received gifts for men;

yes, for the rebellious also, that the LORD God might dwell among them.

The verse begins, You have ascended on high, you have led captivity captive: you have received gifts for men; David began with the words, “you have ascended on high” or “you, Jehovah God, have gone up, excelled, been taken up and raise upon an elevated place”, “you have led captivity captive” which means “you, Jehovah God, have carried and brought away people who are prisoners and in captivity”: “you have received gifts” or “you, Jehovah God, have taken, fetched, laid hold of, seized and acquired presents and sacrificial offerings” “for men” which means “on behalf of mankind or human beings”. David said at the time when Jehovah God was raised to an elevated place, He released prisoners from captivity and He seized presents and sacrificial offerings on their behalf.

The verse continues,yes, for the rebellious also, that the LORD God might dwell among them. David added the words, “yes, for the rebellious also” or “even so and indeed, on behalf of the people who are stubborn, refractory and backsliding furthermore”, “that the LORD God” which means “so Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God the Divine judge, ruler and Supreme God” “might dwell among them” or “is able to settle down, abide and reside alongside of the stubborn and refractory as well”. David said Jehovah God would even so and indeed reside alongside people who are stubborn, refractory and prideful against Him.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn through David when Jehovah God was raise to an elevated location, He freed prisoners from captivity and seized presents and sacrificial offerings on behalf of people. Jehovah God also dwells among the “stubborn and refractory” because He desires to convict them of their sins so they might turn their lives over to His Son Jesus. When we are in opposition to Jehovah God, He sends His Holy Spirit to “reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment” (See John 16:8), and through Him people become aware of their need for a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. God will forgive the sins of every person who believes and trusts in His Son Jesus who died on the cross for their sins, and we will give Him praise, honor and glory for all eternity for His wonderful blessings to those who believe.

Next time David says, “blessed be the Lord, who daily loads us with benefits”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
