Setting Fast the Mountains - Psalms 65:6

In Psalms chapter sixty-five David said, “Blessed is the man whom you choose, and cause to approach unto you, that he may dwell in your courts: we shall be satisfied with the goodness of your house, even of your holy temple. By terrible things in righteousness will you answer us, O God of our salvation; who are the confidence of all the ends of the earth, and of them that are afar off upon the sea”, and in chapter sixty-five and verse six of Psalms David said, “which by his strength sets fast the mountains” where we read,

Which by his strength sets fast the mountains; being girded with power:

The verse begins, Which by his strength sets fast the mountains; David began with the words, “which by his strength” or “who through the means of his, Jehovah God's, power, might, wealth and ability” “sets fast” which means “makes firm, establishes, fixes and securely determines” “the mountains” or “the risings above the plain or range of hills”. David said Jehovah God establishes the risings above the plains by His power and might.

The verse continues, being girded with power: David added the words, “being girded” or “encompassed, equipped and clothed” “with power” which means “by the means of strength, valor, bravery and mighty deeds”. David said Jehovah God is clothed with strength, valor and mighty deeds.

When we think through the words in this verse, we see how David gave an example of the power and might of Jehovah God. God created and ordained the “mountains” of the world, and because He is clothed with great ability, He can establish them in place or remove them at any time. God is omnipotent, omniscient and omnipresent, and He was gracious enough to send His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we believe and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins and grant us everlasting life with Him. The powerful maker and keeper of the “mountains”, Jehovah God, invites us all to come to Him and allow Him to exhibit His power and might in our lives.

Next time David says Jehovah God, “stills the noise of the seas”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
