Singing the Honor of God's Name - Psalms 66:2

In Psalms chapter sixty-six David said, “Make a joyful noise unto God, all you lands”, and in chapter sixty-six and verse two of Psalms David said, “Sing forth the honor of his name” where we read,

Sing forth the honor of his name: make his praise glorious.

The verse begins, Sing forth the honor of his name: David began with the words, “sing forth” or “make music with voices and instruments” “the honor” which means “the glory, abundance, riches and splendor” “of his name” or “belonging to his, Jehovah God's, reputation, fame and glory”. David instructed his readers and listeners to break out in songs with their voices and instruments to glorify and give praise to the reputation, fame and glory of Jehovah God.

The verse goes on to say, make his praise glorious. David continued with the words, “make his praise” or “put, set, appoint and direct his, Jehovah God's, honor, splendor, dignity, reverence and reputation” “glorious” which means “honorable, splendorous, with dignity and reputation”. David directed his readers and listeners to appoint and set forth Jehovah God's reputation to be honorable, reverent and splendorous.

When we think through the words in this verse, we see how David directed people hearing and listening to his words to use their voices and instruments to glorify Jehovah God in worship. God's reputation, fame and glory is to be exalted in splendor, and His “honor and reputation” is to be magnified among people. God loves people, and He sent His Son Jesus to die on the cross for their sins so they could live with Him forever. When we submit to Jesus, we employ our hearts, minds and voices to make worshipful music unto Jehovah God.

Next time David says, “How terrible are you in your works”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
