Falling by the Sword and Foxes - Psalms 63:10

In Psalms chapter sixty-three David said to Jehovah God, “My soul follows hard after you: your right hand upholds me. But those that seek my soul, to destroy it, shall go into the lower parts of the earth”, and in chapter sixty-three and verse ten of Psalms David said, “they shall fall by the sword” where we read,

They shall fall by the sword: they shall be a portion for foxes.

The verse begins, They shall fall by the sword: David began with the words, “they shall fall” or “they, the people seeking after David's soul, will vanish, be split and melt” “by the sword” which means “through the strength and power of the knife, axe, mattock or cutting instrument”. David said the people who sought to ruin his “soul” would not only go “into the lower parts of the earth”, but would also vanish and melt by the strength of a sharpened cutting instrument.

The verse goes on to say, they shall be a portion for foxes. David continued with the words, “they shall be a portionor “they, the people who sought David's soul to destroy it, would exist as an allotment or providence” “for foxes” which means “on behalf of burrowers, foxes or jackals”. David said the people who sought to destroy his “soul” would also exist as a provision for burrowing jackals or foxes.

When we consider the words in this verse, we see how David knew there would be further judgment brought upon people who sought to ruin his “soul”, and the judgment included eliminating them by a sharp cutting instrument and giving their bodies to wild jackals or foxes. People will be judged for their words and behavior, and because “there is none righteous, no, not one” (See Romans 3:10), everyone is in need of Jesus who came to be the “Savior” of the world. He died on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we believe and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and keep us from the condemning judgment of God that is to come. Let us surrender ourselves to Jesus and never find ourselves under the “sword” and made as a “portion for foxes”.

Next time David says, “the king shall rejoice in God”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
