Let the Nations Be Glad and Sing - Psalms 67:4

In Psalms chapter sixty-seven David said, “Let the people praise you, O God; let all the people praise you”, and in chapter sixty-seven and verse four of Psalms David said, “O let the nations be glad and sing” where we read,

O let the nations be glad and sing for joy:

for you shall judge the people righteously, and govern the nations upon earth. Selah.

The verse begins, O let the nations be glad and sing for joy: David began with the words, “O let the nations” or “O allow and permit the Hebrew and non-Hebrew people groups” “be glad” which means “rejoice, exult, gladden and make merry” “and sing for joy” or “and be overcome with a gladdened shout, ringing cry and exaltation”. David exhorted the people within all the nations to “be happy and overjoyed” as they bring a merry songs before Jehovah God.

The verse goes on to say,for you shall judge the people righteously, and govern the nations upon earth. Selah. David continued with the words, “for you shall judge” or “because, since and on account that you, Divine judge Jehovah God will govern, vindicate and rule over” “the people righteously” which means “the human beings both male and female in a right, just and upright manner”, “govern the nations” or “lead and guide the people groups both Hebrew and non-Hebrew” “upon earth” which means “in the country, territory, region and world”. “Selah” or “exalt, lift up and pause to meditate upon it”. David said Jehovah God would govern over and vindicate the people in a right and just manner, and He will lead, guide and bestow goodness and righteousness upon people who believe in Him. Anyone reading these words should pause and meditate upon this idea.

When we consider the words in this verse, we see how David wanted the entire world to rejoice while they presented their songs of “praise, honor and thanksgiving” to Jehovah God. God will certainly judge people in a right and just manner, and He judged their sin when His Son Jesus died on the cross. When we surrender our lives to Jesus, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and help us see that He is indeed the judge and governor of the entire world. This should cause us to pause and meditate upon the goodness of Jehovah God and His Son Jesus.

Next time David says, “Let the people praise you”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
