God Be Merciful to Us - Psalms 67:1

Psalms chapter sixty-seven begins with the heading, “[[To the chief Musician on Neginoth, A Psalm or Song.]]” which breaks down, “to the chief Musician” or “to the preeminent, overseeing superintendent or chief choir director” “on Neginoth” which means “with a taunting or mocking song with a stringed instrument”, “A Psalm” or “a poem or melody set to notes” “or Song” which means “a musical ode”, and in chapter sixty-seven and verse one of Psalms David said, “God be merciful unto us, and bless us” where we read,

God be merciful unto us, and bless us; and cause his face to shine upon us; Selah.

The verse begins, God be merciful unto us, and bless us; David began with the words, “God be merciful unto us” or “the Divine judge, ruler and Supreme God be gracious, show favor and show consideration toward us, David and his fellow countrymen”, “and bless us” which means “and adore, praise and salute us, David and his fellow countrymen”. David desired that the Divine judge Jehovah God be gracious and favorable toward him and his fellow countrymen and a salute them as well.

The verse continues, and cause his face to shine upon us; Selah. David added the words, “and cause his face” or “and make his, the Divine judge Jehovah God's countenance and presence” “to shine upon us” which means “to become brilliant and illuminate us, David and his fellow countrymen”; “Selah” or “exalt, lift up and pause to meditate upon it”. David desired that Jehovah God's countenance brightly illuminate him and his countrymen, and anyone listening to and reading his words should pause and meditate upon this idea.

When we consider the words in this verse, we see how David wanted Jehovah God to extend His grace, favor and consideration toward him and his countrymen. He also desired that God brightly illuminate them, and anyone reading and listening to Him should pause to meditate upon this idea. (Perhaps David was remembering the blessing that was to be put upon the people of Israel in Numbers chapter six and verses twenty four thru twenty seven.) God wants to extend His grace to everyone, (See Ephesians 2:8-9) and when we surrender our lives to His Son Jesus, who died upon the cross for our sins, as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and cleanse us from all iniquities and wrongs. Let us yield to Jesus and allow God's favor and countenance to shine upon us, and we shall give Him praise, honor and glory for all eternity for His amazing grace.

Next time David says, “that your way may be known upon earth”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
