Not Punishing Your Daughters - Hosea 4:14

In the book of Hosea, Hosea shared how Jehovah God said, “My people ask counsel at their stocks, and their staff declares unto them: for the spirit of whoredoms has caused them to err, and they have gone a whoring from under their god. They sacrifice upon the tops of the mountains, and burn incense upon the hills, under oaks and poplars and elms, because the shadow is good: therefore your daughters shall commit whoredom, and your spouses shall commit adultery”, and in chapter four and verse fourteen of Hosea, Hosea said, “I will not punish your daughters when they commit whoredom” where we read,

I will not punish your daughters when they commit whoredom,

nor your spouses when they commit adultery:

for themselves are separated with whores, and they sacrifice with harlots:

therefore the people that does not understand shall fall.

The verse begins, “I will not punish your daughters when they commit whoredom, ...” Hosea began with the words, “I will not punish your daughters” or “I, Jehovah God, shall in no way or manner pay attention to, observe or attend to your, the nation of Israel's, female offspring and descendants” “when they commit whoredom” which means “at the time and moment they, the daughters of the nation of Israel, dedicate themselves to adultery, fornication and prostitution”. Hosea shared how Jehovah God said he would in no way or manner penalize the female offspring of the nation of Israel.

The verse continues, “... nor your spouses when they commit adultery:” Hosea added the words, “nor your spouses” or “no and not in any way your, the nation of Israel's, wedded brides” “when they commit adultery” which means “at the time and moment they, the spouses of the nation of Israel, dedicate themselves to worshiping idols and break wedlock”. Hosea shared how Jehovah God said He would not penalize the wedded brides of the nation of Israel at the time they dedicate themselves to the worshiping of idols and breaking their wedded vows.

The verse goes on to say, “for themselves are separated with whores, and they sacrifice with harlots:” Hosea continued with the words, “for themselves are separated with whores” or “because, since and on account that themselves, the husbands of the spouses, are divided with harlots and prostitutes”, “and they sacrifice with harlots” which means “and they, the husbands of the spouses in the nation of Israel, make offerings, slaughters and slayings alongside prostitutes”. Hosea shared how Jehovah God knew the husbands of of the people within the nation of Israel were also involved in harlotry and worshiping idols alongside of them.

Finally the verse says, “therefore the people that does not understand shall fall.” Hosea ended this verse by saying, “therefore the people” or “wherefore, then and these things being so the human beings both male and female” “that does not understand shall fall” which means “who are without perception, discernment and insight will be thrown down, thrust away and cast aside”. Hosea shared how Jehovah God said the result of the wives and husbands within the nation of Israel committing spiritual idolatry and adultery would be to be thrown down and cast away because of their lack of perception.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn through Hosea how Jehovah God was aware of the idolatry and spiritual adultery of both the “spouses” within the nation of Israel. This would be to their demise, and this was not what Jehovah God wanted for them because He promised not to penalize their “daughters and spouses”. God loves the nation of Israel, and He loves us. He proved His love toward us when He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we yield our lives to Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and give us a passion to worship Him and Him alone for all eternity.

Next time Hosea says, “though you, Israel, play the harlot, yet let not Judah offend”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
