Revolters Making Slaughter - Hosea 5:2

In the book of Hosea, Hosea said, “Hear you this, O priests; and hearken, you house of Israel;and give you ear, O house of the king; for judgment is toward you, because you have been a snare on Mizpah, and a net spread upon Tabor”, and in chapter five and verse two of Hosea, Hosea said, “the revolters are profound to make slaughter” where we read,

And the revolters are profound to make slaughter,

though I have been a rebuker of them all.

The verse begins, And the revolters are profound to make slaughter, ...” Hosea began with the words, “and the revolters” or “and the people who swerve, rebel and turn aside” “are profound” which means “exist as deep” “to make slaughter” or “to kill, beat or hammer for food”. Hosea said the people and priests of Israel were rebels who deeply turned aside and killed for food.

The verse goes on to say, though I have been a rebuker of them all.” Hosea continued with the words, “though I have been a rebuker” or “even though I, Hosea and Jehovah God, have been a disciplinarian, chastener and corrector” “of them all” which means “pertaining to each, every, the whole and everyone of them, the priests and people of Israel”. Hosea said the people and priests of Israel were rebellious and deep in killing even though he and Jehovah God had discipline and corrected every one of them.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn through Hosea how he knew there were people among the nation of Israel who were deeply involved in beating and killing others for food even though he and Jehovah God chastened them for doing so. God wants to turn people from their rebellious ways, and He sent His Son Jesus to die on the cross for the sinful acts and deeds of every person. When we surrender our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and put within us a desire to be corrected by His Holy Spirit so we do not involve ourselves in rebellious and disobedient ways.

Next time Hosea says, “I know Ephraim, and Israel is not hid from me”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
