What Takes Away the Heart - Hosea 4:11

In the book of Hosea, Hosea shared how Jehovah God said of the nation of Israel, “they shall eat, and not have enough: they shall commit whoredom, and shall not increase: because they have left off to take heed to the LORD”, and in chapter four and verse eleven of Hosea, Hosea shared what will, “take away the heart” where we read,

Whoredom and wine and new wine

take away the heart.

The verse begins, “Whoredom and wine and new wine ...” Hosea began with the words, “whoredom and wine” or “adultery, fornication and fermented intoxicating fruit of the vine” “and new wine” which means “and freshly pressed fruit of the vine” will have the following effect upon people. Hosea shared how adultery, fermented fruit of the vine and freshly pressed fruit of the vine would have the following effect.

The verse goes on to say, “... take away the heart.” Hosea continued with the words, “take away” or “fetch, seize, snatch and possesses” “the heart” which means “the soul, mind, will, desires, living being, conscience and seat of emotions and affections”. Hosea said that “whoredom, wine and new wine” possess the soul, mind and will of a person.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn how Hosea declared harlotry, adultery, fornication, drinking fermented and fresh pressed fruit of the vine as that which leads a person to being possessed by them. God doesn't want anything other than Him to “take away” our souls, minds and wills, and when we yield to His Son Jesus who died on the cross for our sins, we will not only be forgiven of our sins and inherit eternal life with Him, but also be kept from addictions and vices that only serve to imprison, possess and ruin our lives and souls.

Next time Hosea says, “my people ask counsel at their stocks”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
