You Shall Fall in the Day - Hosea 4:5

In the book of Hosea, Hosea shared how Jehovah God said to the nation of Israel, “let no man strive, nor reprove another: for your people are as they that strive with the priest”, and in chapter four and verse five of Hosea, Hosea said, “therefore shall you fall in the day” where we read,

Therefore shall you fall in the day, and the prophet also shall fall with you in the night,

and I will destroy your mother.

The verse begins, “Therefore shall you fall in the day, and the prophet also shall fall with you in the night, ...” Hosea began with the words, “therefore shall you fall” or “then, wherefore and on this account will you, the nation of Israel, stumble, stagger and totter” “in the day” which means “within the period or division of time”, “and the prophet also” or “and the spokesman, speaker and inspired man even so and indeed” “shall fall with you in the night” which means “will stumble, stagger and totter alongside you, the nation of Israel, within the nighttime or time of adversity”. Hosea shared how the nation of Israel would stagger and stumble within the division of time, and their spiritual minister would stagger and stumble within the time of adversity.

The verse continues, “... and I will destroy your mother.” Hosea added the words, “and I will destroy” or “and I, Jehovah God, shall cut off, cause to cease and perish” “your mother” which means “your, the nation of Israel's, immediate female progenitor and ancestor”. Hosea shared how Jehovah God said He would cut off and cause to perish the female progenitor of the people of Israel.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we discover through Hosea how Jehovah God continued to involve Himself in the lives of the nation of Israel. He knew they would stumble and stagger, and even their spiritual leaders and birthright were under His control. God loves Israel, and He loves us. He sent His Son Jesus into the world to be crucified on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we yield our lives to Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and watch over our lives even when we are staggering and tottering along the way.

Next time Hosea says, “my people are destroyed for lack of knowledge”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
