In Psalms chapter thirty one David said, “O love the LORD, all you his saints: for the LORD preserves the faithful, and plentifully rewards the proud doer”, and in chapter thirty one and verse twenty-four of Psalms David said, “Be of good courage, and he shall strengthen your heart” where we read,
Be of good courage, and he shall strengthen your heart, all you that hope in the LORD.
The verse begins, “Be of good courage, ...” David began with the word, “be” which means “exist in a state” “of good courage” or “pertaining to strength, firmness and resolute”. David exhorted those reading and hearing his words to be strong, firm, rigid and resolute.
The verse goes on to say, “... and he shall strengthen your heart, all you that hope in the LORD.” David continued with the words, “and he shall strengthen” or “and he, Jehovah God, will make strong, firm, courageous, secure and resolute” “your heart” which means “your, the people reading and hearing David's words, inner man, mind, will, soul, understanding and seat of appetites, emotions and passions”, “all you that hope” or “each, every, the whole and everyone of you, people who are reading and hearing David's words, who await, tarry and expect” “in the LORD” which means “within Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God”. David wrote how Jehovah God would respond to those who are of “good courage” by making them strong, courageous, secure and resolute within their souls because they put their expectations in Him.
When we consider the words in this verse, we see through David how Jehovah God would reciprocate courage, strength and security within people who are of “good courage”. God always initiates His love and direction with people, and when we read these words of David, He is directing us to be “of good courage”. Then, when we comply with His words, He strengthens us in our resolve. In other words, He initiated having courage within our lives, and He did the same by sending His Son Jesus to die on the cross for our sins. He initiated. We respond, and now all we have to do is receive His Son Jesus as our “Savior and Lord” and He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and make us stronger in our “hope” in Him. Blessed be the LORD God Almighty for His provision of “courage” and “hope” for all who put their faith and trust in Him.
Next time we begin a new chapter and see David say, “Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
