O Love the LORD - Psalms 31:23

In Psalms chapter thirty one David said, “Blessed be the LORD: for he has showed me his marvelous kindness in a strong city. For I said in my haste, I am cut off from before your eyes: nevertheless you heard the voice of my supplications when I cried unto you”, and in chapter thirty one and verse twenty-three of Psalms David said, “O love the LORD, all you his saints” where we read,

O love the LORD, all you his saints:

for the LORD preserves the faithful, and plentifully rewards the proud doer.

The verse begins, O love the LORD, all you his saints:” David began with the words, “O love the LORD” which means “Oh have strong affection and desire for Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God”, “all you his saints” or “each, every, the whole and everyone of you, believers in Jehovah, faithful, kind, pious and godly ones”. David exhorted his faithful, pious and godly readers and listener to have strong affection and desire toward Jehovah God.

The verse continues, for the LORD preserves the faithful, and plentifully rewards the proud doer. David added the words, “for the LORD” or “because, since and on account that Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name of the One True God” “preserves the faithful” which means “guards, watches over and keeps the established, firm, sure, verified and confirmed”, “and plentifully rewards” or “and excessively, abundantly and copiously punishes, recompenses and requites” “the proud doer” which means “the haughty, arrogant and self-important producer, observer and bestower”. David shared how Jehovah God guards and protects people who are established, verified and confirmed in their belief in Him, and He recompenses people who work arrogantly.

When we think through the words in this verse, we see how David exhorted the people who have a strong affection and desire for Jehovah God to “love” Him because He guards and watches over those who believe and trust in Him. He also recompenses and punishes the people who produce arrogant and haughty works. God loves people, and He wants them to be in a personal relationship with Him through His Son Jesus. He sent Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and anyone who yields to Jesus as their personal “Savior and Lord” will be forgiven of their sins and granted everlasting life. These are the “faithful”, and we are invited to be among them. Let us give praise, honor and love to Jehovah God for His preservation and protection and commit all those who produce haughty works to Him.

Next time David says, Be of good courage, and he shall strengthen your heart, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
