Psalms chapter thirty begins with the heading, “[[A Psalm and Song at the dedication of the house of David.]]” which breaks down, “A Psalm” or “a melody of a poem set to notes and played with a musical instrument” “and Song” which means “and a lyrical religious musical or ode” “at the dedication of the house of David” or “at the initiation and consecration of the dwelling place, abode and shelter or temple belonging to David whose name means beloved and was the second king of Israel”, and in chapter thirty and verse one of Psalms David said, “I will extol you, O LORD”, where we read,
I will extol you, O LORD; for you have lifted me up, and have not made my foes to rejoice over me.
The verse begins, “I will extol you, O LORD;” David began with the words, “I will extol you” which means “I, David, will exalt, lift up and raise you, Jehovah God”, “O LORD” or “Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God”. David told Jehovah God that he would exalt and lift Him up.
The verse goes on to say, “for you have lifted me up, and have not made my foes to rejoice over me.” David continued with the words, “for you” or “because, since and on account that you, Jehovah God” “have lifted me up” which means “exalted, raised and delivered me, David”, “and have not made” or “and in no way have caused” “my foes to rejoice over me” which means “my, David's, hating adversaries and enemies to be joyful, brightened, glad and merry over me, David”. David told Jehovah God he was reciprocating exaltation to Him because Jehovah raised him up by not allowing his enemies to be joyful and glad over him.
When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we see how David recognized the benefits and blessing of Jehovah God in his life. God raised David up from his lowly position as a shepherd boy to be the king of Israel. Jehovah God protected David from his hating adversaries, and they were unable to be joyful over him because they had not caused him harm or death. God loved David, and David loved God. God loves everyone, and His desire is to watch over, protect and raise them up to places and positions which they could never deserve or earn. He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of mankind, and anyone who believes and trusts in Him as their personal “Savior and Lord” will be saved, exalted and protected by Him. Let us “extol” the LORD because He exalts us as we exalt Him for His blessings that shall last forever.
Next time we see David say, “O LORD my God, I cried unto you”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
