In Psalms chapter thirty David said, “I will extol you, O LORD; for you have lifted me up, and have not made my foes to rejoice over me. O LORD my God, I cried unto you, and you have healed me”, and in chapter thirty and verse three of Psalms David said, “O LORD, you have brought up my soul from the grave”, where we read,
O LORD, you have brought up my soul from the grave:
you have kept me alive, that I should not go down to the pit.
The verse begins, “O LORD, you have brought up my soul from the grave:” David began with the words, “O LORD” which means “O Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God”, “you have brought up my soul” or “you, Jehovah God, have risen, ascended, aroused and lifted up my, David's, self, desire, appetite, emotions, passions, mind and heart” “from the grave” which means “apart and separate from sheol, the underworld, hell and the pit ”. David shared how Jehovah God raised him from the underworld, hell and the pit.
The verse goes on to say, “you have kept me alive, that I should not go down to the pit.” David continued with the words, “you have kept me alive” or “you, Jehovah God, have sustained, quickened, restored and revived me, David”, “that I should not go down” which means “so I, David, would not descend, decline, march and sink” “to the pit” or “toward the hole, cistern, dungeon and prison”. David wrote how Jehovah God preserved his life and prevented him from descending into a dungeon or prison of death.
When we consider the words in this verse, we learn from David how Jehovah God rescued and preserved his life. God knew the number of David's days, and at this point in his life, it was not time for him to descend to the “grave”. Psalms chapter ninety and verse twelve says, “teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom”, and David knew Jehovah God not only saved him from the “grave”, but also kept him from descending into the prison of death. God knows the expiration date of every person on earth. Some live a long time, and others a very short time. God knows there is an eternal life after death, and He cares deeply about where people will spend eternity. This is why Jesus said, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.” (See John 3:16 -17) When we believe and trust in Jesus as our personal “Savior and Lord”, Jehovah God will forgive our sins and grant us everlasting life with Him. This is the ultimate rescue and preservation of life, and we who believe in Jesus will spend all eternity giving Him honor, praise and glory for rescuing and preserving us.
Next time David says, “Sing unto the LORD, O you saints of his”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
