I Will Hear God the LORD - Psalms 85:8

In Psalms chapter eighty five the Psalmist said to Jehovah God, “Show us your mercy, O LORD, and grant us your salvation”, and in chapter eighty five and verse eight of Psalms the Psalmist said to Jehovah God, “show us your mercy” where we read,

I will hear what God the LORD will speak: for he will speak peace unto his people, and to his saints: but let them not turn again to folly.

The verse begins, I will hear what God the LORD will speak: for he will speak peace unto his people, and to his saints: The Psalmist began with the words, “I will hear” or “I, the Psalmist, shall be endowed with the faculty of hearing, perceiving and understanding” “what God the LORD” which means “that which the Divine judge, ruler and Supreme God who is Jehovah whose name means the existing One which is the proper name for the One True God” “will speak peace” or “shall utter, declare and proclaim completeness, soundness, welfare and health” “unto his people” which means “toward his, Jehovah God's, human beings both male and female” “and unto his saints” or “and toward his, Jehovah God's saintly, kind, godly, pious and faithful ones”. The Psalmist declared that he would listen to what the Divine judge Jehovah God shall say because He would proclaim soundness, welfare and health to His people Israel.

The verse continues, but let them not turn again to folly. The Psalmist added the words, “but let them not turn again” or “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover do not allow the people of Israel to return and go back another time” “to folly” which means “toward silliness and stupidity”. The Psalmist appealed to Jehovah God not to allow the people of Israel to return to silly and stupid ways.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we see how the Psalmist recognized the value in Jehovah God's words because He could give “peace” to His people Israel. He knew there was a possibility that the people of Israel would return to their ways of silliness and stupidity, so he appealed to God not to allow them to do so. God wants to give words of “peace” to everyone who will yield to His Son Jesus, and He will preserve those who surrender to Jesus against falling into foolish ways again. This is why Jesus died on the cross. By dying for us, He provided access to a relationship with God that allows us to enjoy His forgiveness, “peace” and preservation for all eternity.

Next time the Psalmist said, “Surely his salvation is near to them that fear him”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
