Laid in the Lowest Pit - Psalms 88:6

In Psalms eighty eight the Psalmist said, “I am counted with them that go down into the pit: I am as a man that has no strength. Free among the dead, like the slain that lie in the grave, whom you remember no more: and they are cut off from your hand”, and in chapter eighty eight and verse six of Psalms the Psalmist said, “you have laid me in the lowest pit” where we read,

You have laid me in the lowest pit, in darkness, in the deeps.

The verse begins, “You have laid me in the lowest pit, ... The Psalmist began with the words, “you have laid me” or “you, Jehovah God, have put, set, stationed, appointed, fixed and set me, the Psalmist” “in the lowest pit” which means “within the lowermost depth, well or cistern”. The Psalmist said Jehovah God stationed and put him within the lowermost depths or cistern.

The verse continues,... in darkness, in the deeps. The Psalmist added the words, “in darkness” or “within the dark place, secrecy, dark region or hiding-place”, “in the deeps” which means “within the depths, deep sea or bottom”. The Psalmist said Jehovah God placed him within the dark regions and depths.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we see how the Psalmist said Jehovah God placed him in the lowermost cistern or well where it was dark and of great depth. This, no doubt, was a man who was in dire straits. We may be able to relate to the Psalmist as he poured out his complaint to God and blamed God for his condition. God knows us, and He is aware of our circumstances, situations and feelings about them. He wants us to come to Him with our troubles, and He made access for us to come boldly to Him in our time of need through His Son Jesus whom He sent to be crucified on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we believe and trust in His Son Jesus as our personal “Savior and Lord” will be forgiven of their sins, granted everlasting life and be permitted to come to God with all our despair, troubles and situations. (See Hebrews 4:16)

Next time the Psalmist says, “your wrath lies hard upon me”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
