Show Us Your Mercy, O LORD - Psalms 85:7

In Psalms chapter eighty five the Psalmist asked Jehovah God, “Will you be angry with us for ever? will you draw out your anger to all generations? Will you not revive us again: that your people may rejoice in you?”, and in chapter eighty five and verse seven of Psalms the Psalmist said to Jehovah God, “show us your mercy” where we read,

Show us your mercy, O LORD, and grant us your salvation.

The verse begins, Show us your mercy, O LORD, ... The Psalmist began with the words, “show us” or “present and exhibit to us, the Psalmist and the people of Israel” “your mercy” which means “your, Jehovah God's, goodness, kindness and faithfulness”, “O LORD” or “O Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God”. The Psalmist appealed Jehovah God to demonstrate His goodness and faithfulness to him and the people of Israel.

The verse goes on to say,... and grant us your salvation. The Psalmist continued with the words, “and grant us” or “and give, set, bestow and ascribe to us, the Psalmist and the people of Israel” “your salvation” which means “your, Jehovah God's, rescue, liberation and deliverance”. The Psalmist wanted Jehovah God to bestow His deliverance and rescue upon him and the people of Israel.

When we consider the words in this verse, we see how the Psalmist wanted Jehovah God to extend His goodness and faithfulness upon him and the people of Israel. He desired God's deliverance because He knew having a relationship with God would not only provide His goodness and kindness, but He would also rescue them in their time of need. God wants to give His “mercy and salvation” to us, and when we receive His Son Jesus as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and allow us to enjoy His “salvation” for all eternity.

Next time the Psalmist said, “I will hear what God the LORD will speak”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
