The Enemy Not Exacting - Psalms 89:22

In Psalms eighty nine Ethan the Psalmist shared how Jehovah God said, “I have found David my servant; with my holy oil have I anointed him. With whom my hand shall be established: my arm also shall strengthen him”, and in chapter eighty nine and verse twenty-two of Psalms Ethan shared how Jehovah God said of David, “the enemy shall not exact upon him” where we read,

The enemy shall not exact upon him; nor the son of wickedness afflict him.

The verse begins, The enemy shall not exact upon him; Ethan began with the words, “the enemy” or “the hating foe and adversary” “shall not exact” which means “will in no way act as a creditor like one in debt and using usury” “upon him” or “on him, David”. Ethan said Jehovah God would not allow David to be in debt to His hating foes in any way or manner.

The verse goes on to say,nor the son of wickedness afflict him. Ethan continued with the words, “nor the son of wickedness” or “no and not in any way the male offspring and descendant belonging to injustice, unrighteousness, wrong and violation of deeds” “afflict him” which means “depress, put down, mishandle or humble him, David”. Ethan said Jehovah God would not allow people who are unjust and wrong to depress or put David down.

When we consider the words in this verse, we see how Ethan shared how Jehovah God was to be David's protector. No “enemy” or “son of wickedness” would be able to bring their evil against him. God loves people, and there is no greater protection available to us. When He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, He provided salvation to us when we believe and trust in Jesus as our personal “Savior and Lord”. When we surrender to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and protect us from those who would do us eternal harm.

Next time Ethan the Psalmist shares how Jehovah God says of David, “and I will beat down his foes before his face”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
