In the book of Nehemiah, Nehemiah said, “These are the children of the province, that went up out of the captivity, of those that had been carried away, whom Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon had carried away, and came again to Jerusalem and to Judah, every one unto his city.” Nehemiah included the children of many of the people of Israel in his census, and he added several of the men such as “the men of the other Nebo, the other Elam” and “the children of Harim, Jericho, Lod, Hadid, Ono and Senaah.” He also made record of, “the priests, the Levites, the singers, the porters, Nethinims” and “the children of Solomon's servants, these were they which went up also from Telmelah, Telharesha, Cherub, Addon, and Immer: but they could not show their father's house, nor their seed, whether they were of Israel;” He added, “the children of Delaiah, Tobiah, Nekoda and of the priests” and those who “sought their register among those that were reckoned by genealogy” as well as what “the Tirshatha said unto them” as “the whole congregation together was forty and two thousand three hundred and threescore, beside their manservants and their maidservants … and singing men and women”, and in chapter seven and verse sixty-eight of Nehemiah, Nehemiah shared about, “their horses and mules” where we read,
Their horses, seven hundred thirty and six: their mules, two hundred forty and five:
The verse reads, “Their horses, seven hundred thirty and six:” Nehemiah began with the words, “their horses” which means “the people of Israel's swifts or chariot horses”, “seven hundred thirty and six” or “seven hundred and thirty six horses”. Nehemiah shared how the people of Israel brought “seven hundred and thirty six horses” with them back to Jerusalem.
The verse continues, “their mules, two hundred forty and five:” Nehemiah added the words, “their mules” or “the people of Israel's lonely mules”, “two hundred forty and five” which means “two hundred and forty-five mules”. Nehemiah said the people of Israel were also accompanied by “two hundred and forty-five” mules as they went back to Jerusalem.
When we think through the words in this verse, we learn through Nehemiah that the directive from Jehovah God for the people of Israel to return to Jerusalem and Judah was so complete, that they brought their “horses and mules” with them. God loves full commitment from us, and when we receive His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind and raised Him from the dead three days later, He made the way for us to be forgiven of our sins, granted everlasting life and given the opportunity to live in full commitment to Him in Heaven forevermore.
Next time Nehemiah shares about, “their camels and donkeys”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
