The Children of Keros, Sia and Padon - Nehemiah 7:47

In the book of Nehemiah, Nehemiah said, These are the children of the province, that went up out of the captivity, of those that had been carried away, whom Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon had carried away, and came again to Jerusalem and to Judah, every one unto his city.” Nehemiah included the children of many of the people of Israel in his census, and he added several of the men such as “the men of the other Nebo, the other Elam” and “the children of Harim, Jericho, Lod, Hadid, Ono and Senaah.” He also counted, “the priests, the Levites: the children of Jeshua, of Kadmiel, and the children of Hodevah seventy and four” and “the singers, the porters” and “the Nethinims: the children of Ziha, the children of Hashupha, the children of Tabbaoth, ...”, and in chapter seven and verse forty-seven of Nehemiah, Nehemiah shared about, “the children of Keros, Sia and Padon”, where we read,

The children of Keros, the children of Sia, the children of Padon,

The verse reads, The children of Keros, the children of Sia, ...” Nehemiah began with the words, “the children which means “the offspring and progeny” “of Keros” or “belonging to Keros whose name means ankle”, “the children” which means “the offspring and progeny” “of Sia” or “belonging to Sia whose name means departing”. Nehemiah shared about the offspring of “Keros and Sia” that he counted who were among the people of Israel who were “porters” or “gatekeepers and janitors” who returned to Jerusalem and Judah to the rebuilding of the barrier wall.

The verse goes on to say, “... the children of Padon, ...” Nehemiah continued with the words, “the children” or “the progeny or offspring” “of Padon” which means “belonging to Padon whose name means random”. Nehemiah added the offspring of “Padon” to the list of “porters” who returned to Jerusalem to be servants in the temple.

When we meditate upon Nehemiah's words in this verse, we see how he included the offspring of the servants to the Levites and the priests in his census of the people of Israel who returned to Jerusalem and Judah to the completion of the barrier wall. These “servants” would be useful in the ministry and worship of Jehovah God, and God desires to have every person in service to Him when they receive His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind and was raised from the grave three days later. When we believe and trust in Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and put within us His Holy Spirit who shall guide us into all truth and empower us to live according to that truth so we may be in service to Him all our lives. (See John 16:33; Acts 1:8)

Next time Nehemiah shares about, “the children of Lebana, Hagaba and Shalmai”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
