The Children of Bazlith, Mehida and Harsha - Nehemiah 7:54

In the book of Nehemiah, Nehemiah said, These are the children of the province, that went up out of the captivity, of those that had been carried away, whom Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon had carried away, and came again to Jerusalem and to Judah, every one unto his city.” Nehemiah included the children of many of the people of Israel in his census, and he added several of the men such as “the men of the other Nebo, the other Elam” and “the children of Harim, Jericho, Lod, Hadid, Ono and Senaah.” He also counted, “the priests, the Levites: the children of Jeshua, of Kadmiel, and the children of Hodevah seventy and four” and he included “the singers, the porters” and “the Nethinims: the children of Ziha, the children of Hashupha, the children of Tabbaoth, Keros, Sia and Padon, Lebana, Hagaba, Shalmai, Hanan, Giddel, Gahar, Reaiah, Rezin and Nekoda, Gazzam, Uzza and Phaseah, Besai, Meunim, Nephishesim, Bakbuk, Hakupha and Harhur ...”, and in chapter seven and verse fifty-four of Nehemiah, Nehemiah shared about, “the children of Bazlith, Mehida and Harsha”, where we read,

The children of Bazlith, the children of Mehida, the children of Harsha,...

The verse reads, The children of Bazilith, the children of Mehida, ...” Nehemiah began with the words, “the childrenwhich means “the offspring and progeny” “of Bazilith” or “belonging to Bazilith whose name means asking”, “the children” which means “the offspring and progeny” “of Mehida” or “belonging to Mehida whose name means famous or noble”. Nehemiah added “Bazlith and Mehida” to the number of “Nethinims” who came to Jerusalem and were servants to the Levites and priests in the temple.

The verse continues, “... the children of Harsha, ...” Nehemiah added the words, “the children” or “the progeny or offspring” “of Harsha” which means “belonging to Harsha whose name means mute”. Nehemiah included the offspring belonging to “Harsha” to his census of the “Nethinims” of Israel who served in the temple in Jerusalem.

When we think through Nehemiah's words in this verse, we discover another group of offspring of the “Nethinims” of Israel who returned to Jerusalem to serve in the temple. “Bazlith, Mehida and Harsha” had progeny who were among the temple servants, and each of them were noted by Nehemiah. God took record of them too, and He desires to do the same with us. God loves us, and He proved His love when He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind and was raised from the dead three days later. When we believe and trust in Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and give us an area of service in His Kingdom both now and in the eternal life to come.

Next time Nehemiah shares about, “the children of Barkos, Sisera and Tamah”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
