In the book of Nehemiah, Nehemiah said, “These are the children of the province, that went up out of the captivity, of those that had been carried away, whom Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon had carried away, and came again to Jerusalem and to Judah, every one unto his city.” Nehemiah included the children of many of the people of Israel in his census, and he added several of the men such as “the men of the other Nebo, the other Elam” and “the children of Harim, Jericho, Lod, Hadid, Ono and Senaah.” He also counted, “the priests, the Levites: the children of Jeshua, of Kadmiel, and the children of Hodevah seventy and four” and he included “the singers, the porters, Nethinims” and “the children of Solomon's servants: the children of Sotai, the children of Sophereth, the children of Perida, the children of Barkos, Sisera, Tamah and Neziah”, and in chapter seven and verse fifty-eight of Nehemiah, Nehemiah shared about, “the children of Jaala, Darkon and Giddel”, where we read,
The children of Jaala, the children of Darkon, the children of Giddel,
The verse reads, “The children of Jaala, the children of Darkon,” Nehemiah began with the words, “the children” which means “the offspring and progeny” “of Jaala” or “belonging to Jaala whose name means ascending”, “the children”which means “the offspring and progeny” “of Darkon” or “belonging to Darkon whose name means scatterer”. Nehemiah shared how the offspring of “Jaala and Darkon” were also listed among servants of Solomon.
The verse continues, “the children of Giddel, ...” Nehemiah added the words, “the children” or “the progeny or offspring” “of Giddel” which means “belonging to Giddel whose name means very great”. Nehemiah added the progeny belonging to “Giddel” or “very great” to the people of Israel who were servants of Solomon.
When we consider the words in this verse, we learn through Nehemiah more of the names though whom the descendants of the servants of Solomon came. The offspring of “Jaala, Darkon and Giddel” were among the people of Israel who went back to Jerusalem to the completion of the barrier wall. Each of these families were not only registered, but they were noted by Jehovah God. God loves everybody, and He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and God raised Him from the dead three days later so all who believe and trust in Him will have their sins forgiven, be granted everlasting life and counted in His Kingdom as they live in service to Him.
Next time Nehemiah shares about, “the children of Shephatiah, Hattil, Pochereth and Amon”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
