The Children of Bakbuk, Hakupha and Harhur - Nehemiah 7:53

In the book of Nehemiah, Nehemiah said, These are the children of the province, that went up out of the captivity, of those that had been carried away, whom Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon had carried away, and came again to Jerusalem and to Judah, every one unto his city.” Nehemiah included the children of many of the people of Israel in his census, and he included several of the men such as “the men of the other Nebo, the other Elam” and “the children of Harim, Jericho, Lod, Hadid, Ono and Senaah.” He also added, “the priests, the Levites: the children of Jeshua, of Kadmiel, and the children of Hodevah seventy and four” and he counted “the singers, the porters” and “the Nethinims: the children of Ziha, the children of Hashupha, the children of Tabbaoth, Keros, Sia and Padon, Lebana, Hagaba, Shalmai, Hanan, Giddel, Gahar, Reaiah, Rezin and Nekoda, Gazzam, Uzza and Phaseah, Besai, Meunim and Nephishesim ...”, and in chapter seven and verse fifty-three of Nehemiah, Nehemiah shared about, “the children of Bakbuk, Hakupha and Harhur”, where we read,

The children of Bakbuk, the children of Hakupha, the children of Harhur,...

The verse reads, The children of Bakbuk, the children of Hakupha, ...” Nehemiah began with the words, “the childrenwhich means “the offspring and progeny” “of Bakbuk” or “belonging to Bakbuk whose name means bottle”, “the children” which means “the offspring and progeny” “of Hakupha” or “belonging to Hakupha whose name means bent”. Nehemiah included the offspring of “Bakbuk and Hakupha” in the list of “Nethinims” who returned to Jerusalem after being captives in Babylon.

The verse goes on to say, “... the children of Harhur, ...” Nehemiah continued with the words, “the children” or “the progeny or offspring” “of Harhur” which means “belonging to Harhur whose name means inflammation”. Nehemiah included the progeny belonging to “Harhur” in his census of the “Nethinims”.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn through Nehemiah about more of the servants to the Levites and priests who returned to Jerusalem to the completion of the barrier wall. Every one of these people were important in their service in the temple, and they were noted not only by Nehemiah, but also by Jehovah God. God wants us to serve in His Kingdom, and when we surrender our lives to His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind and was resurrected three days later, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and use us in His Kingdom according to His perfect will, purpose and plan.

Next time Nehemiah shares about, “the children of Bazlith, Mehida and Harsha”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
