In Psalms chapter thirty nine David said, “I said, I will take heed to my ways, that I sin not with my tongue: I will keep my mouth with a bridle, while the wicked is before me”, and in chapter thirty nine and verse two of Psalms David said, “I was dumb with silence, I held my peace, even from good” where we read,
I was dumb with silence, I held my peace, even from good; and my sorrow was stirred.
The verse begins, “I was dumb with silence, I held my peace, even from good;” David began with the words, “I was dumb with silence” or “I, David, was bound, fastened and tied to being quiet, in repose and still waiting”, “I held my peace” which means “I, David, was still, inactive and showing inactivity”, “even from good” or “apart and separate from pleasant, agreeable, excellent, rich and valuable welfare, benefit and prosperity”. David said he kept quiet and in waiting as he was inactive also from that which is pleasant, excellent and valuable.
The verse goes on to say, “and my sorrow was stirred.” David continued with the words, “and my sorrow” or “and my, David's, mental and physical pain” “was stirred” which means “existed as troubled, disturbed and calamitous”. David declared his mental and physical pain to be troublesome and disturbed.
When we think through the words in this verse, we see how David continued in his efforts to keep quiet and in repose. He didn't even engage in “good” acts because he was so troubled over his situation. God knew we would experience difficulties and afflictions in this life, and when they occur, He desires to be the resource upon whom we rely. God sent His Son Jesus to die on the cross for the sins of the world, and anyone who relies upon, clings to and trusts in Him will be forgiven of their sins, granted everlasting life and be accompanied by Him when troubles arise. Sometimes it is best for us to be quiet, sit still and allow Jehovah God to give us aid in the midst of our trials, and we shall give Him praise, honor and glory for all eternity for all the times we waited and remained at peace. (See Psalm 46:10)
Next time David says, “My heart was hot within me, while I was musing the fire burned”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
