In Psalms chapter thirty eight David said, “Lord, all my desire is before you; and my groaning is not hid from you”, and in chapter thirty eight and verse ten of Psalms David said, “my heart pants, and my strength fails me” where we read,
My heart pants, my strength fails me: as for the light of my eyes, it also is gone from me.
The verse begins, “My heart pants, my strength fails me:” David began with the words, “My heart pants” or “my, David's, inner man, mind, will, understanding, soul, knowledge, thinking, reflection, memory, inclination, resolution, determination and conscience goes and travels about intensively and palpitates”, “my strength fails me” which means “my, David's, power, might and force leaves, forsakes, abandons, departs from and apostatizes me, David”. David said his soul palpitated and his power and might forsook and abandoned him.
The verse continues, “as for the light of my eyes, it also is gone from me.” David added the words, “as for the light” or “considering the illumination, instruction and prosperity” “of my eyes” which means “belonging to my, David's, physical eyes or mental and spiritual faculties”, “it also is gone from me” or “the illumination of David's mental and spiritual faculties was even so and indeed departed and non-existent”. David shared how the “illumination” of his soul was departed from him.
When we consider the words in this verse, we see how David's sin affected his soul, power, might and illumination. Sin has consequences that affect not only our physical bodies, but also our souls, minds and spirits. Our entire beings are affected by sin, and this is why Jehovah God sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. He invites everyone to receive His Son Jesus as their personal “Savior and Lord”, and when the effects of sin has come into our lives, He will not only forgive us, but He will cleanse us from all unrighteousness. (See 1 John 1:9) Let us give praise, honor and glory to Jehovah God and His Son Jesus for knowing our condition and providing redemption for the effect sin has brought upon us.
Next time David says, “my lovers and my friends stand aloof from my sore”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
