In Psalms chapter thirty eight David said, “For I will declare my iniquity; I will be sorry for my sin. But my enemies are lively, and they are strong: and they that hate me wrongfully are multiplied. They also that render evil for good are my adversaries; because I follow the thing that good is”, and in chapter thirty eight and verse twenty-one of Psalms David said, “forsake me not, O LORD” where we read,
Forsake me not, O LORD: O my God, be not far from me.
The verse begins, “Forsake me not, O LORD:” David began with the words, “Forsake me not” or “do not leave, let loose, abandon, neglect or apostatize me, David”, “O LORD” which means “O Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name of the One True God”. David appealed to Jehovah God not to leave or abandon him.
The verse goes on to say, “O my God, be not far from me.” David continued with the words, “O my God” or “O my, David's, Divine judge, ruler and Supreme God”, “be not far from me” which means “do not exist as distant, far away and removed apart and separate from me, David”. David appealed to Jehovah God not to be removed and apart from him.
When we think through the words in this verse, we see how David requested that Jehovah God not abandon nor be apart from him. David must have felt alone, and there are times when we may wonder where God is in our lives. Jehovah God said, “And the LORD, he it is that does go before you; he will be with you, he will not fail you, neither forsake you: fear not, neither be dismayed” (Deuteronomy 31:8), and Jesus said, “I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.” (Matthew 28:20) In other words, God is always with us. His desire is that we acknowledge Him and His saving grace through His Son Jesus, and when we submit ourselves to Jesus as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and accompany us in this life and in the life to come.
Next time David says, “make haste to help me”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
