Psalms chapter thirty eight David said, “my iniquities are gone over my head: as an heavy burden they are too heavy for me”, and in chapter thirty eight and verse five of Psalms David said, “my wounds stink and are corrupt” where we read,
My wounds stink and are corrupt because of my foolishness.
The verse begins, “My wounds stink and are corrupt ...” David began with the words, “My wounds stink” or “my, David's, bruises, stripes and physical blows have a bad smell, stink and become odious” “and are corrupt” which means “and exist as decayed, pining away and rotting”. David said his physical blows and bruises smell bad and are rotting.
The verse goes on to say, “... because of my foolishness.” David continued with the word, “because” or “since and on account” “of my foolishness” which means “of my, David's, folly and silliness”. David wrote how his “folly and silliness” caused his stinking physical condition.
When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we see how David was suffering physically from his sin, and the rotting of his flesh was odious and smelled. Sin has consequences, and the result of folly and silliness can result in suffering and pain. God's desire is to save mankind from their sins, and He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die for the sins of everyone. When we receive Jesus as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and bring us into an intimate relationship with Him that includes keeping us away from the consequences of sinful behavior. Let us give praise, honor and glory to Jehovah God for His provision for us even when we suffer stinking, smelly and odious effects from the errors we have made.
Next time David says, “I am troubled; I am bowed down greatly”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
