Psalms chapter thirty eight David said, “my iniquities are gone over my head: as an heavy burden they are too heavy for me. My wounds stink and are corrupt because of my foolishness”, and in chapter thirty eight and verse six of Psalms David said, “I am troubled; I am bowed down greatly” where we read,
I am troubled; I am bowed down greatly; I go mourning all the day long.
The verse begins, “I am troubled; I am bowed down greatly;” David began with the words, “I am troubled” or “I, David, exist as bent, twisted, distorted and amiss”; “I am bowed down greatly” which means “I, David, exist as crouched, prostrated, humbled, reduced and weakened to a massive and abundant degree”. David considered himself to be distorted, amiss, prostrated and humbled.
The verse continues, “I go mourning all the day long .” David added the words, “I go mourning” or “I, David, proceed, walk and traverse in a heavily darkened gloom” “all the day long” which means “the whole sunrise to sunset period”. David shared how he went about in a heavily darkened gloom throughout the entire day.
When we think through the words in this verse, we see how David's oppression physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually affected him. David felt like he was twisted and distorted, and it caused him to be very humbled and gloomy every day. The effects of sin and a sinful decision can make anyone feel depressed and driven down. God knew this in advance, and He provided ways to live to avoid the consequences of error and wrong. God loves people, and because we have sin in our lives, we need a “Savior” who will release us of the pain associated with sin. He sent His Son Jesus to be crucified on the cross to pay the price of death for the sins of the world, and anyone who yields to Him will be forgiven of their sins and granted everlasting life with Him. Though we too may experience humility, depression and gloom in our lives, we have the opportunity to come to Jesus and give Him all the troubles that we encounter. (See 1 Peter 5:7)
Next time David says, “my loins are filled with a loathsome disease”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
