In Psalms chapter thirty seven David said, “I have seen the wicked in great power, and spreading himself like a green bay tree. Yet he passed away, and, lo, he was not: yes, I sought him, but he could not be found. Mark the perfect man, and behold the upright: for the end of that man is peace”, and in chapter thirty seven and verse thirty-eight of Psalms David said, “the transgressors shall be destroyed together” where we read,
But the transgressors shall be destroyed together: the end of the wicked shall be cut off.
The verse begins, “But the transgressors shall be destroyed together:” David began with the words, “But the transgressors” or “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover the people who rebel, revolt, quarrel against and break away” “shall be destroyed together” which means “will be exterminated, annihilated and devastated in union and altogether alike”. David contrasted the fate of destruction promised people who rebel, revolt and quarrel against Jehovah God and His ways to that of the “perfect and upright”.
The verse continues, “the end of the wicked shall be cut off.” David added the words, “the end of the wicked” or “the after part, future and latter and hindermost time belonging to the criminal, ungodly, guilty of sin and hostile to God and others” “shall be cut off” which means “will be eliminated, beheaded, hewn down and destroyed”. David said the future of people who are ungodly, guilty of sin and hostile to God and other is to be eliminated and destroyed.
When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we see how David contrasted the fate of the “wicked” with the “righteous”. People who are made “perfect and upright” through a personal relationship with Jehovah God's Son Jesus Christ will live forever with Him, however, people who refuse and reject Him as their personal “Savior and Lord” will know the judgment of Almighty God and be eliminated and destroyed. The Apostle Peter said God's desire is that none should perish, “The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.” (See 2 Peter 3:9), and everyone who puts their faith and trust in Jesus will be forgiven of their sins and granted everlasting life with God in Heaven. We are invited to come to Jesus, humble ourselves, repent of our sins and allow Him to conform us to His image, and we shall spend all eternity giving Him praise, honor and glory when we do.
Next time David says, “the salvation of the righteous is of the LORD”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
