In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “He that blesses his friend with a loud voice, rising early in the morning, it shall be counted a curse to him”, and in chapter twenty-seven and verse fifteen of Proverbs Solomon shared about, “a continual dropping” and “a contentious woman” where we read,
A continual dropping in a very rainy day
and a contentious woman are alike.
The verse begins, “A continual dropping in a very rainy day ...” Solomon began with the words, “a continual dropping” or “a unvarying, changeless and constant dripping such as from water or rain” “in a very rainy day” which means “within a steady, persistent and pouring rain sunrise to sunset or division of time” is similar to the following. Solomon referred to the constant and persistent dripping that comes from a sweeping and pouring rain throughout a period of time or “day”.
The verse continues, “... and a contentious woman are alike.” Solomon added the words, “and a contentious woman” or “and a striving and brawling female human being” “are alike” which means “exist as similar, in likeness and resemblance”. Solomon said a brawling female human being and a continual dripping rain are similar.
When we consider the words in this verse, we learn through Solomon how a “woman” who is constantly striving and brawling is similar to the invariant dripping of water or raindrops. A person can only endure so much of this kind of behavior before they act upon it, and God wants us to be wise enough not be like this and to know how to manage when the droning behavior continues. God sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind - including dripping annoyances, and when we believe and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and show us through His Holy Spirit when we are continually nagging and how to manage those who nag us.
Next time Solomon says, “whosoever hides her hides the wind”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
