In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “He that has no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down, and without walls”, and in chapter twenty-six and one of Proverbs Solomon said, “honor is not seemly for a fool” where we read,
As snow in summer, and as rain in harvest,
so honor is not seemly for a fool.
The verse begins, “As snow in summer, and as rain in harvest, ...” Solomon began with the words, “as snow in summer” or “similar and in likeness to whitened winter snow within dry summer season”, “and as rain” which means “and similar and in likeness to the showering rain” “in harvest” or “within the reaping time”. Solomon said snow in the heated summertime and rain in the reaping time is similar to the following.
The verse goes on to say, “... so honor is not seemly for a fool.” Solomon continued with the words, “so honor” or “even, also and indeed glory, splendor, good sense and reverence” “is not seemly” which means “is in no way or manner comely, beautiful or suitable” “for a fool” or “on behalf of a person who is a dullard, simpleton, arrogant and stupid”. Solomon said glory, splendor and reverence is as suitable and beautiful for a foolish person who is a dullard and foolish as the rarity of refreshing “snow” in the heated summertime and the showering “rain” in the reaping time.
When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn through Solomon how it is very uncommon for a person who is foolish to have good sense and glory. This is as rare to occur as summertime snow and rain in the harvest time. God doesn't want us to be dullards and stupid, and He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for our sins so we could have a personal relationship with Him. When we yield our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and give us glory and splendor which keeps us from acting and being like a “fool”.
Next time Solomon says, “the curse causeless shall not come”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
