A Little Sleep and A Little Slumber - Proverbs 24:33

In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “I went by the field of the slothful, and by the vineyard of the man void of understanding; And, lo, it was all grown over with thorns, and nettles covered the face thereof, and the stone wall thereof was broken down. Then I saw, and considered it well: I looked upon it, and received instruction, and in chapter twenty-four and verse thirty-three of Proverbs Solomon said, “yet a little sleep, a little slumber” where we read,

Yet a little sleep, a little slumber,

a little folding of the hands to sleep:

The verse begins, “Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, Solomon began with the words, “yet a little sleep” or “even so just a small amount of napping”, “a little slumber” which means “a small amount of dormancy” leads to the following.Solomon concluded that the overgrown field was caused by a small amount of napping and dormancy.

The verse continues, “a little folding of the hands to sleep:” Solomon added the words, “a little folding of the hands” or “a small amount of clasping of the physical hands in idleness” “to sleep” which means “to nap”. Solomon included the clasping of the hands together in idleness as the reason the field and vineyard were overgrown.

When we consider the words in this verse, we learn about Solomon's thoughts concerning the overgrown field, and he attributed it to someone who was napping, dormant and idle. God wants us to be industrious, and because we may be inclined to idleness, He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we put our faith and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and give us strength and ability to keep our “fields”, whatever they may be, from being overgrown and neglected.

Next time Solomon says, “so shall your poverty come as one that travels”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
