In the book of Proverbs the writer said, “A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver”, and in chapter twenty-five and verse twelve of Proverbs Solomon shared about, “an earring and ornament of gold” where we read,
As an earring of gold, and an ornament of fine gold,
so is a wise reprover upon an obedient ear.
The verse begins, “As an earring of gold, and an ornament of fine gold, ...” Solomon began with the words, “as an earring of gold” or “similar and in likeness to a ring that pierces the ear made with golden metal”, “and as an ornament of fine gold” which means “and similar and in likeness to jewelry made with golden metal” the following is true. Solomon employed “golden earrings and jewelry” to be compared to the following.
The verse goes on to say, “... so is a wise reprover upon an obedient ear.” Solomon continued with the words, “so is a wise reprover” or “even so and indeed exists a skilled, shrewd and prudent decider, corrector and rebuker” “upon an obedient ear” which means “on a listening, attentive and heeding physical ear”. Solomon said “golden earrings and ornaments” are similar to a skilled person who gives correction to heeding physical ears.
When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn through Solomon how precious the skilled words of a person who gives correction can be. When we are willing to hear and perceive correction and guidance, our lives become better for it. God desires to give us His wisdom, (See James 1:5) and when we yield to Him through His Son Jesus Christ who died on the cross for our sins, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and teach us how to be “wise reprovers” as well as prudent and “obedient” listeners when those who are wise speak.
Next time Solomon shares about, “the cold of snow in the time of harvest”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
