Confidence in an Unfaithful Man - Proverbs 25:19

In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “A man that bears false witness against his neighbor is a maul, and a sword, and a sharp arrow, and in chapter twenty-five and verse nineteen of Proverbs Solomon shared about, “confidence in an unfaithful man in time of trouble” where we read,

Confidence in an unfaithful man in time of trouble

is like a broken truth, and a foot out of joint.

The verse begins, Confidence in an unfaithful man in time of trouble ... Solomon began with the word, “confidence” or “trust, refuge and security” “in an unfaithful man” which means “within a person whether male or female who acts treacherously, deceitfully and offensively” “in time of trouble” or “within a period or season pertaining to straits, distress and vexation” exists as the following. Solomon said having trust and security within a person who acts treacherously and offensively when periods of distress come is like the following.

The verse goes on to say, “... is like a broken truth, and a foot out of joint.” Solomon continued with the words, “is like a broken truth” or “exists similar and in likeness to an ivory tooth in the mouth that is damaged and injured”, “and a foot out of joint” which means “and a physical foot that totters, slides, shakes or is dislocated”. Solomon said having trust and security within a person who acts treacherously is similar to a damaged “tooth” and a “dislocated” “foot”.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn through Solomon how we should not put our faith and trust in people who act deceitfully and offensively in our times of distress because they are similar to damaged body parts such as a “tooth” or “foot”. God wants us to put our faith and trust in Him, and He will help us know who to believe in times of trouble. When we surrender our lives to His Son Jesus who died on the cross for our sins, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and give us His Holy Spirit who will guide us into all truth so we know where to place our“confidence” and how to avoid relationships that are like a “broken tooth” and “foot out of joint”.

Next time Solomon shares about, “a man that takes away a garment in cold weather”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
