No Respect of Persons in Judgment - Proverbs 24:23

In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “My son, fear you the LORD and the king: and meddle not with them that are given to change: For their calamity shall rise suddenly; and who knows the ruin of them both?, and in chapter twenty-four and verse twenty-three of Proverbs Solomon said, “it is not good to have respect of persons in judgment” where we read,

These things also belong to the wise.

It is not good to have respect of persons in judgment.

The verse begins, “These things also belong to the wise. Solomon began with the words, “these things” or “the following acts and deeds” “also belong to the wise” which means “even so and indeed lie, consist and exist with people who are skilled, shrewd and prudent”. Solomon began to list the acts and deeds that exist with people who are skilled, shrewd and prudent.

The verse continues, “It is not good to have respect of persons in judgment.” Solomon added the words, “it is not good” or “it is in no way or manner pleasant, agreeable, excellent and valuable” “to have respect of persons” which means “to hold, own and possess recognition, regard and acknowledgment pertaining to people whether male or female” “in judgment” or “within justice, ordinance and the act of deciding a case”. Solomon said it exists in no way pleasant or valuable to possess recognition, procedure and process when litigating people.

When we think through the words in this verse, we learn through Solomon about acts that are part of the person's life who is skilled and prudent. Solomon said there should be no preferential treatment for people regardless of who they are when litigating a case. In other words, we are to be non-bias. God is no respecter of people (See Acts 10:34), and He desires to have a personal relationship with everyone through His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we believe and trust in Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and help us by His Holy Spirit to regard every person the same when litigation and procedure are necessary to decide a matter.

Next time Solomon shares about, “he that says to the wicked, you are righteous”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
