In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “As the cold of snow in the time of harvest, so is a faithful messenger to them that send him: for he refreshes the soul of his masters”, and in chapter twenty-five and verse fourteen of Proverbs Solomon shared about, “whoso boasts himself of a false gift” where we read,
Whoso boasts himself of a false gift
is like clouds and wind without rain.
The verse begins, “Whoso boasts himself of a false gift ...” Solomon began with the words, “whoso boasts himself” or “whatsoever person whether male or female that praises and commends their own self” “of a false gift” which means “pertaining to a lying, deceptive, fraudulent and wrong present or reward”. Solomon referred to a person who promises to give a present but does not give it.
The verse continues, “... is like clouds and wind without rain.” Solomon added the words, “is like clouds and wind” or “exists similar and in likeness to rising mist and blowing whirling tempests or winds” “without rain” which means “not having any showering rain”. Solomon said the person who promises to give a gift is similar to misting clouds and blowing tempests that do not produce any showering rain.
When we think through the words in this verse, we learn through Solomon how people who make promises to give something and do not do so are similar to darkening clouds that produce no rain at all. In other words, we are to have integrity and be truthful with our presents and gifts. God loves us, and what He promises, He gives. “God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him, should not perish, but have everlasting life”(See John 3:16), and anyone who trusts and believes in Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind will be forgiven of their sins, granted everlasting life and given aid by His Holy Spirit to be honorable and truthful when we promise to give.
Next time Solomon says, “by long forbearing is a prince persuaded”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
