As the Cold of Snow - Proverbs 25:13

In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver. As an earring of gold, and an ornament of fine gold, so is a wise reprover upon an obedient ear, and in chapter twenty-five and verse thirteen of Proverbs Solomon shared about, “the cold of snow in the time of harvest” where we read,

As the cold of snow in the time of harvest,

so is a faithful messenger to them that send him:

for he refreshes the soul of his masters.

The verse begins, As the cold of snow in the time of harvest, ... Solomon began with the words, “as the cold of snow” or “similar and in likeness to frigid, cool and piercing temperature pertaining to whited snow” “in the time of harvest” which means “within the division, period and season belonging to the reaping time”. Solomon referred to the refreshing cool temperature within the reaping season compared to the following.

The verse goes on to say, “so is a faithful messenger to them that send him:” Solomon continued with the words, “so is a faithful messenger” or “even and indeed exists an established, firm, verified, trustworthy and reliable herald, ambassador or envoy” “to them that send him” which means “to the people who dispatch and assign him, the faithful messenger”. Solomon said a trustworthy envoy is refreshing to the people who dispatched them.

Finally the verse says, for he refreshes the soul of his masters.” Solomon concluded this verse with the words, “for he refreshes” or “because, since and on account that he, the faithful messenger, restores, repairs and revives” “the soul of his masters” which means “the heart, mind, will, desires, living being, conscience and seat of emotions and affections belonging to his, the trustworthy envoy's, lord, leader, owner or sovereign one”. Solomon said the reason the the “faithful messenger” is refreshing is because they restore and revive their leader or owner's heart, mind and will.

When we think through the words in this verse, we learn through Solomon how valuable a trustworthy envoy is to their“master” and others. God wants us to be “faithful workers” in His Kingdom, and when we yield our lives to His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and teach us to be His “faithful messengers” to a lost and dying world.

Next time Solomon shares about, “whoso boasts himself of a false gift”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
