Fear the LORD and the King - Proverbs 24:21

In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “Fret not yourself because of evil men, neither be you envious at the wicked; For there shall be no reward to the evil man; the candle of the wicked shall be put out, and in chapter twenty-four and verse twenty-one of Proverbs Solomon said, “my son, fear you the LORD and the king” where we read,

My son, fear you the LORD and the king:

and meddle not with them that are given to change:

The verse begins, “My son, fear you the LORD and the king: Solomon began with the words, “my son” or “my, Solomon's male offspring and progeny”, “fear you the LORD” which means “you, Solomon's son, reverence, be in awe and give honor to Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God” “and the king” or “and the royal ruler or leader”. Solomon told his son to have reverence and awe toward Jehovah God and the royal ruler.

The verse continues, “and meddle not with them that are given to change:” Solomon added the words, “and meddle not” or “and do not engage, undertake, be surety for or as a pledge” “with them that are given to change” which means “alongside and beside people who are prone to transmutation, diversion, perversion, duplication or rebellion.” Solomon instructed his son not to engage with people who are prone to diversion, duplication and rebellion.

When we consider the words in this verse, we see how Solomon wanted his son to revere Jehovah God and the royal ruler and to keep himself distant from people who are rebellious. God wants the same for us because our lives will be bettered for it. God loves us, and when we yield our lives to His Son Jesus who died on the cross for our sins as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and teach us the value of revering Him and our authorities while we keep our distance from people who are rebellious and prone to diversion.

Next time Solomon says, “their calamity shall rise suddenly”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
