In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “It is better to dwell in the corner of the housetop, than with a brawling woman in a wide house”, and in chapter twenty-five and verse twenty-five of Proverbs Solomon shared about, “cold waters to a thirsty soul” where we read,
As cold waters to a thirsty soul,
so is good news from a far country.
The verse begins, “As cold waters to a thirsty soul, ...” Solomon began with the words, “as cold waters” or “similar and in likeness to frigid, chilled and cool flood or spring waters” “to a thirsty soul” which means “toward the heart, mind, will, desires, living being, conscience and seat of emotions and affection belonging to a person that is athirst, exhausted and weary”. Solomon said similar to the way that chilled water refreshes the exhausted and weary heart, mind and will of a person, the following is true.
The verse goes on to say, “... so is good news from a far country.” Solomon continued with the words, “so is good news” or “even, also and indeed exists pleasant, agreeable, excellent, rich and valuable reports or tidings” “from a far county” which means “from a distant region, territory, plain or land”. Solomon said a pleasant report from a distant land is similar to refreshing cool water to a person with a “thirsty soul”.
When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we discover through Solomon the similarities of a person who is refreshed by cool water to the person who receives a pleasant report from a distant land. Each of these hold great value to the person who needs them, and the gospel or “good news” of Jesus Christ is available to every “thirsty” soul in the world. Jesus came into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we yield our lives to Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and teach us through His Holy Spirit how to be refreshed in our souls and how to refresh the soul of others with “good news”.
Next time Solomon shares about, “a righteous man falling down before the wicked”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
