Considering the Field - Proverbs 24:32

In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “I went by the field of the slothful, and by the vineyard of the man void of understanding; And, lo, it was all grown over with thorns, and nettles covered the face thereof, and the stone wall thereof was broken down, and in chapter twenty-four and verse thirty-two of Proverbs Solomon said, “then I saw, and considered it well” where we read,

Then I saw, and considered it well:

I looked upon it, and received instruction.

The verse begins, “Then I saw, and considered it well: Solomon began with the words, “then I saw” or “at that time I, Solomon, perceived, looked, beheld and contemplated”, “and considered it well” which means “and thought about and took the field to heart”. Solomon shared how he observed the field and thought about it deeply.

The verse goes on to say, “I looked upon it, and received instruction.” Solomon continued with the words, “I looked upon it” or “I, Solomon, observed, inspected, perceived and regarded the field”, “and received instruction” which means “and seized, acquired and took in discipline, chastening, correction and a lesson”. Solomon said he observed the field and acquired a lesson from it.

When we think through the words in this verse, we see how Solomon observed the overgrown field neglected by the lazy person, and he acquired discipline and a lesson from it. We shall see more about what he learned in our next verse, but for now, let us think about how he took the time to “consider” the overgrown field. Sometimes when we see something that is out of order or disregarded, we may gain a lesson for our own lives. God wants us to know He loves us, and because He desires that we live in the best manner possible. He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we receive Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and equip us with His wisdom to pay attention when something seems out of order or disregarded.

Next time Solomon says, “yet a little sleep, a little slumber”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
