In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “See you a man wise in his own conceit? There is more hope of a fool than of him”, and in chapter twenty-six and verse thirteen of Proverbs Solomon said, “the slothful man says, there is a lion in the way” where we read,
The slothful man says, there is a lion in the way;
a lion is in the streets.
The verse begins, “The slothful man says, there is a lion in the way;” Solomon began with the words, “the slothful man says” or “the sluggish, lazy and indolent person whether male or female utters, declares and proclaims”, “there is a lion” which means “there exists a roaring and fierce lion” “in the way” or “within the road, journey and path”. Solomon referred to how lazy people make the excuse that a fierce lion exists within the pathway.
The verse goes on to say, “a lion is in the streets.” Solomon continued with the words, “a lion” or “a fierce and roaring lion” “is in the streets” which means “exists within the plaza or broad and open place”. Solomon added that the“slothful” person also uses the excuse that a fierce “lion” is in the plaza.
When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn through Solomon how a lazy and indolent person employs self-justification as to why they do not want to go outside. A “fierce and roaring lion” might be along their path, and so they avoid any venture. God wants us to put our faith and trust in Him through His Son Jesus who died on the cross for our sins, and when we believe in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and teach us by His Holy Spirit to trust Him for any “lion” that may be in our path.
Next time Solomon says the “slothful” is like, “the door that turns upon his hinges”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
