Giving a Right Answer - Proverbs 24:26

In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “These things also belong to the wise. It is not good to have respect of persons in judgment. He that says unto the wicked, You are righteous; him shall the people curse, nations shall abhor him: But to them that rebuke him shall be delight, and a good blessing shall come upon them, and in chapter twenty-four and verse twenty-six of Proverbs Solomon shared about, “lips that give a right answer” where we read,

Every man shall kiss his lips

that gives a right answer.

The verse begins, “Every man shall kiss his lips ... Solomon began with the words, “every man” or “each, all, the whole and everyone of the people both male and female” “shall kiss his lips” which means “will touch gently his, the person who gives correct and lawful judgment over the wicked's, lips used for speaking” when they do the following. Solomonshared how each and everyone of the people will gently touch the speaking lips of the person who correctly does the following.

The verse goes on to say, “... that gives a right answer.” Solomon continued with the words, “that gives” or “who grants, bestows and returns” “a right answer” which means “a straight, plain, correct and upright word, utterance, speech or response”. Solomon said everyone of the people will gently touch the speaking lips of the person who provides a straight and correct response.

When we think through the words in this verse, we learn through Solomon how people act favorably toward an authority or judge who speaks in a just, right and lawful manner. The honest answer from a person is similar to a “kiss” on the lips which denotes favor and acceptance. God wants us to be honest in our judgments, and because we have sin in our lives, He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we surrender our lives to Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us eternal life and help us to “give right answers” when we are met with circumstances that call for them.

Next time Solomon says, “prepare your work without”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
