A Word Fitly Spoken - Proverbs 25:11

In the book of Proverbs the writer said, “Go not forth hastily to strive, lest you know not what to do in the end thereof, when your neighbor has put you to shame. Debate your cause with your neighbor himself; and discover not a secret to another. Lest he that hears it put you to shame, and your infamy turn not away, and in chapter twenty-five and verse eleven of Proverbs Solomon said, “a word fitly spoken is like apples of gold” where we read,

A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold

in pictures of silver.

The verse begins, A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold ... Solomon began with the words, “a word fitly spoke” or “a speech, utterance, proclamation or declaration timely and seasonally uttered” “is like apples of gold” which means “exists similar and in likeness to golden metal apples”. Solomon said a timely utterance is similar to golden apples within the following setting.

The verse continues, “... in pictures of silver.” Solomon added the words, “in pictures” or “within show-piece bowls or baskets” “of silver” which means “made with silver metal”. Solomon said a timely declaration is similar to golden apples placed within bowls or baskets made with silver metal.

When we consider Solomon's words in this verse, we discover how valuable timely words are when they are spoken. As precious as “golden apples in bowls of silver” words that are appropriate can encourage and minister to a person who is in need. God loves us, and His word, the Bible, is able to speak to us in every circumstance and situation that arises. When we turn to Him, we learn that He sent His Son Jesus to die on the cross for our sins and He is certain to help us with our troubles. When we yield our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and help us to give and receive “timely words” so that we and others will be blessed by them.

Next time Solomon shares about, “an earring of gold, and an ornament of fine gold”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
