Face Answers to Face - Proverbs 27:19

In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “Whoso keeps the fig tree shall eat the fruit thereof: so he that waits on his master shall be honored”, and in chapter twenty-seven and verse nineteen of Proverbs Solomon said, “as in water face answers to face” where we read,

As in water face answers to face,

so the heart of man to man.

The verse begins, As in water face answers to face, ... Solomon began with the words, “as in water” or “similar and in likeness to watercourses, springs or flood waters” “face answers to face” which means “the presence, front and countenance of a person responds or reflects the presence, front and countenance of a person” so the following is true. Solomon referred to the way water reflects the face of the person who looks into it to describe the following.

The verse continues, “... so the heart of man to man. Solomon added the words, so the heart of man” or “even, also and indeed the soul, mind, will, desires, living being, conscience and seat of emotions and affections belonging to a person whether male or female” “to man” which means “toward a person whether male or female”. Solomon said the soul, mind and will of a person reflects themselves to another person.

When we meditate upon Solomon's words in this verse, we see how water works like a mirror to reflect the countenance of a person, and the soul of a person reflects what they are truly like inside. God wants to us to reflect His image even as David the Psalmist said, “as for me, I will behold your face in righteousness: I shall be satisfied, when I awake, with your likeness” (See Psalm 17:15) When we surrender our lives to His Son Jesus who was crucified on the cross for our sins as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and help our souls to be more and more like Him so we reflect His image to others.

Next time Solomon says, “hell and destruction are never full”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
