In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “If your enemy be hungry, give him bread to eat; and if he be thirsty, give him water to drink”, and in chapter twenty-five and verse twenty-two of Proverbs Solomon said, “for you shall heap coals of fire upon his head” where we read,
For you shall heap coals of fire upon his head,
and the LORD shall reward you.
The verse begins, “For you shall heap coals of fire upon his head, ...” Solomon began with the words, “for you shall heap” or “because, since and on account that you, Solomon's readers and listeners, will take hold of, seize, pile up and snatch up” “coals of fire” which means “burning and kindling hot embers” “upon his head” or “on his, Solomon's readers and listeners', physical summit, upper part, front and top of the head”. Solomon said his readers and listeners would pile and snatch up burning embers upon the head, summit and upper part of their enemy's body.
The verse continues, “... and the LORD shall reward you.” Solomon added the words, “and the LORD” or “and Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God” “shall reward you” which means “will complete, make whole, compensate, and recompense you, Solomon's readers and listeners”. Solomon said Jehovah God would recompense Solomon's readers and listeners for heaping “coals of fire upon” their enemy's head.
When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we discover through Solomon what feeding our “enemy” when they are “hungry” and providing drink to them when they are “thirsty” will actually do. Whether the idea is to help them with a heated load or to bring a burning shame upon them, the effect will be that Jehovah God blesses us as we obey Him. God loves us, and His desire is to have a personal relationship with us through His Son Jesus. Because we have sin in our lives and the wages of sin is death (See Romans 3:23; 6:23), Jesus was crucified on the cross to pay the price of death for those sins. When we surrender to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and give us the ability to “heap coals of fire” upon our “enemy's head” according to His perfect will and plan. (See Romans 12:19-20)
Next time Solomon says, “the north wind drives away rain”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
