The Unequal Legs of the Lame - Proverbs 26:7

In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “he that sends a message by the hand of a fool cuts off the feet, and drinks damage”, and in chapter twenty-six and verse seven of Proverbs Solomon said, “the legs of the lame are not equal” where we read,

The legs of the lame are not equal:

so is a parable in the mouth of fools.

The verse begins, The legs of the lame are not equal: Solomon began with the words, “the legs of the lame” or “the upper and lower physical legs belonging to people who are weak, halt and crippled” “are not equal” which means “exists in no way or manner languishing, distressful, brought low and limp”. Solomon referred to the weakened physical legs of people who are halt and crippled.

The verse goes on to say, “so is a parable in the mouth of fools. Solomon continued with the words, “so is a parable” or “even, also and indeed exists a proverb, similitude, aphorism or sentence of ethical wisdom ” “in the mouth of fools” which means “within the orifice in the face used for eating, drinking and speaking belonging to people who are arrogant dullards, simpletons and stupid fellows”. Solomon said proverbs and sentences of ethical wisdom are like “the legs of the lame” within the “mouth” of people who are foolish and simpletons.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn through Solomon how wise sayings and proverbs do not fit within the “mouths” of people who are foolish. Even as a “lame” person's “legs” are unable to function properly, so do ethical sayings malfunction when foolish people declare them. God wants us to be wise, and He gives His wisdom to us when we ask Him. (See James 1:5) Having a personal relationship with God begins the process of wisdom, and for this reason He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we yield our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and teach us how to use “proverbs” properly and not as those who are unwise.

Next time Solomon shares about, “he that gives honor to a fool”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
